Rather than lament having to go back to school, we celebrate the guilty pleasures we didn’t get to read in school. But you can check out from the library! September is library card sign up month too, so what better excuse to get a library card and check this stuff out. Of course you don’t need a library card to attend Salon@615 author talks, Courtyard Concerts, or Movies at Main but it is kind of tasteless to show up without one. We end with what is tickling our fancy in pop culture including a very tasteful So You Think You Can Dance appreciation.

Listen to find out what we will be reading for Summer Reading. Isn’t it counter intuitive to read long books in summer? We finish by revealing what’s tickling our fancy this month. I don’t want to give too much away, but it ends with greasy meat.

Great Summer Reading picks:

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
#2 in The Outlander series

Cold Days by Jim Butcher
#14 in The Dresden Files series – this should out this fall. That gives you the whole summer to catch up on what is probably the best urban fantasy series going these days. Magically, this already has twenty-five five-star reviews on Goodreads. Darn it you time travelin’ wizard types.

Kill You Twice by Chelsea Cain
#5 in the Gretchen Lowell series – this should be released August 7th.

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
#2 in the All Souls Trilogy – this should be released July 10th.

Legends of Film is proud to present an interview with writer and director Philip Kaufman.  Mr. Kaufman has directed such movies as The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Right Stuff, The Wanderers, and The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid.  The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid will be showing Saturday May 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library downtown.

This is a big show! April is Community of Many Faces. We go the whole way across the world to discuss Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84. It is a long, complex book, and we barely scratch the surface. (Speaking of surface, the beautiful cover of the American edition was designed by Chip Kidd.)
